MAN!!!!
Today was our 1st day training the Clean Water Initiative modules in the village of Byumba, in the Gicumbi District, to roughly about 40 local church and community leaders. All the denominations from Catholic to Presbyterian were present and no one was separate. Truly One Church.
It’s almost impossible to even get my head around how cool today was, let alone put into words. These people are so kind and receptive. Without a doubt, I’m the one being trained.
Of course, our daily outline & plan went completely askew when we remembered we were on Rwandan time. Everything happens at a completely different pace. We also didn’t consider just exactly how interested they’d be in what we brought to teach and they asked hundreds of questions, which definitely shows just how interested they are. That definitely reinforces how important it is we’re here.
Beyond any doubt whatsoever WE ARE BLESSED and this is one of the most significant steps I’ve taken in my walk.
Thank GOD I had the courage and obedience to say “yes” when He called.
As for the lessons today, Brian started with an introduction & a short lesson on a teaching technique, then Cindy taught on comparing unhealthy and healthy communities. Then Megan completely captivated the audience for the next three hours with two lessons on germs and the importance of handwashing. She was very thorough & patient with the myriad of questions, but when she finally finished, I was absolutely completely priveledged to introduce and teach how to make the Tippy Tap, which was a challenge due to so many moving parts (mostly humans).
After the training ended for the day, we went to the Byumba Tech Center for Brian to get the modem configured so we can continue to blog. While waiting, Megan and Peter fell in love with two little kids - Alex and Nicolletta. We also found by chance a fantastic co-op which produces handcrafts, employing and training women thereby giving them an alternative to prostitution. When you see me working in the parking lot in a bright electric blue sweater, I bought it there! We’ll definitely be going back for more souvenieres before heading back to Kigali.
In conclusion, today completely blew us away. I would highly suggest that anybody and everybody that’s gotten the call, to do P.E.A.C.E. Do NOT Hesitate!
Johnny…otherwise known in Rwanda as Yohana.
