Reconciling the past and the future

Humbling, surreal, contemplative, stimulating and grateful.  This is how our team  describes our first full day in Kigali, Rwanda.  We began our day with a breakfast meeting at our hotel.  We were seated outside with the birds singing all around us and we were honored by the presence of Eric, Moses and Jon Pierre.  I cannot describe to you how powerful and Spirit led this meeting was; after learning about PEACE for so long, to finally see PEACE put to action and  to be sitting with these Godly men who have been working with the local churches was beyond amazing.  They gave us great insight and guidance and we feel extremely honored to be working alongside them.

We spent the rest of the day buying supplies and necessary essentials we will need for the next 8 days in Gicumbi. We also visited the Genocide Memorial.  If we thought the morning meeting was powerful and emotional, the afternoon at the Memorial was truly life changing.  To read and hear and see what the Rwandans went through during the genocide was very difficult and moving.  Yet, to spend the day in the heart of the city and see the love, healing and the reconciliation all around us was also very empowering.

Needless to say, it has been an emotional day all around.  We prepare to leave tomorrow to go north to begin training the trainers on clean water, health and hygiene and we are all anticipating great things!

Pictures to follow …
